Well Daria isn't what we expected from this pairing from the color standpoint. Her daddy, Kobe's Ovation is a a medium brown male who took 1st at AOBA in 2004. Her dam is a white, but she has a fawn spot on her shoulder, so we were certain that we would have some color on the resulting cria! But that's okay, she is a pretty young alpaca anyway.
Regardless, Daria comes from some great lines. Mahogany Prince is on her daddy's side and Ramilo is on her dam's! You can see from her histogram that she is fine and we look forward to seeing what she can produce after we breed her this spring.
Last spring Daria was bred by a very precocious young male huacaya and had a female huacaya cria by him this spring. Becuase she was just 2 years old when she gave birth, we held off rebreeding this summer and will do so in the spring of 2010 (to a suri).
We call this female "Moose" for she grew so well even though her mom was younger than we would like, so obviously lactation was more than adequate and the cria showed no hesitation to jump right up after she was born to find the tap.
